I have had many personal experiences with Sea Turtles both in Costa Rica volunteering at La Tortuga Feliz and while scuba diving in Bonaire. They hold a very special place in my heart and are one of my favorite animals. I chose to paint from my memory of an experience I had while scuba diving in Bonaire. This beautiful Green sea turtle swam by me and caught me by surprise while I was diving with some friends. It was so magical and felt as though time stood still. It moved slowly and methodically, but at the same time with grace and ease. Glimpsing at me to say hello and then swam away to join the other sea turtles swimming by. There were so many words and expressions in its gaze that I felt like I knew what it was trying to convey to me. We spoke the same language at that moment. Love, curiosity, and acknowledgement of each other. Coming from the heart and having a so-called "heart to heart" moment. Sea turtles as a whole are threatened by habitat loss, pollution, warming water temperatures, and by poachers. My hope is that by showing my soul connection with this incredible being that others will do their part to help protect these sweet creatures and their habitats.
